Donate NowGrant Henry Karel, born December 15, 2005, in Jerome, Idaho, was a talented musician and a beloved member of the Filer community. He passed away on August 9, 2024, at the age of 18, leaving behind a legacy of love for music and the outdoors. Grant excelled academically, graduating in the top 10% of his class at Filer High School in 2024. His passion for music shone through his saxophone performances in the jazz band and his singing in the honor choir. He cherished playing the guitar and singing with his dad, Cody. Grant also loved the outdoors—kayaking, rafting, and snowboarding with his family. A devoted brother and friend, Grant’s faith and service to his community inspired everyone around him.
Inspired by Grant’s love for music, the Grant Henry Karel Music Foundation aims to support the arts at Filer High School. Our goal is to raise $200,000 to establish a trust that generates $10,000 annually for the music and arts programs. This includes a $1,000 scholarship each year for a graduating senior active in these programs. Our board is actively setting goals and bylaws, and we’re grateful for the support from the Filer school system and arts faculty. Together, we can enrich our community through music.
“I’m thankful for our close, caring community and the support we’ve received. Let’s continue to support our kids in these programs.” – Cody Karel, Grant’s Father
